Our favorites for stitching on the go! 🚗💨

I'd love to invite you to take a close look at the event calendar below--now that it's April, we have fantastic events that really are right around the corner! There's even some fresh spring growth in the planter out front--I can't wait for Planter Day on May 4th to get a first glimpse of what the downtown planters will look like this year!yarnfolk dividing line (2).png

…new in the shop

Spring--and road trip season--is here! Now, I knit or crochet in the car almost every day, so I have THOUGHTS.

#1 -- My Lumos Knitting Light. This time of year, I don't need it so much in the morning, but it comes into play when we're spending more time enjoying the evening and night hours outdoors. One of many things I love about it is that while it gives off enough light to navigate by, you can really tone down the amount of light by using only one side, using only the amber lights, or by holding down the power button to dim the output. I've been blinded by a lot of headlamps--because the flexible arms hold their position and can be pointed directly at your work, you are not "that guy" when you're using your Lumos light.

#2 -- My Lemon Wood Mini Minder. I like walking and knitting with this excellent tool. While my spouse was running the 26.2 miles of the Chicago Marathon last year, I walked close to ten miles, and because I'd brought my Mini Minder, I was knitting for most of that time. (A sock, I think.) I also use it in the car on a near-daily basis: I attach the strap to the door handle, and I don't drop my ball of yarn, nor does it tangle. And I've used it in the airport and on planes for the same reason. (I mean, you've probably seen this reel.)

#3 -- Zippered bags. When I'm on the road, best believe I want my project prevented from escaping! These zippered bags from See Design are a great size, zip shut securely, and come in eye-catching (and easy to keep track of) colors.

Just add yarn and hooks or needles, and you're ready to roll!yarnfolk dividing line (2).png

…to inspire

Yarn Folk will be a stop on the Walking Chapbook event in downtown Ellensburg this Saturday, April 6th, from 10am-12pm. Details on the event and other National Poetry month observations are here, and here's a knitting-themed piece from poetryfoundation.org.

Secret project is finished 🎉 and now it's on to formatting the pattern for our shop anniversary event!

Flair Free and Mila Cardis are both seeming quite like they might be sweaters one day. One is cabled all over, and the other is fingering weight yarn. If you were inclined, you might take meaning from the fact that my current audiobook is Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage, about British explorer Ernest Shackleton's 1914 attempt to reach the South Pole.

(Side note: did you know that you can support independent bookstores even when book shopping online when you start at bookshop.org? Find your title, and choose your bookstore! This is also true of audiobooks when you purchase from Libro.fm. When you shop local, we all stay local! ❤️)
