11th Shop Anniversary Party THIS Saturday, 4/13! 🥳🥳🥳

11th Shop Anniversary Party THIS Saturday, 4/13! 🥳🥳🥳

I'm anticipating a busy week, receiving and getting ready to delight you with the custom items we've commissioned to celebrate this milestone with, making up gift bags, and more.

Although we're hosting the party on April 13th, the shop actually opened on April 11, 2013--which makes this year Yarn Folk's "Golden Birthday"--where our "age" matches the day we opened to the public. Some claim that this alignment of age and date ushers in a period of harmony and serendipity. That sounds like a GRAND plan--I'm in!yarnfolk dividing line (2).png

Coming Soon

Yarn Folk 11th Anniversary (THIS SATURDAY!!)

Our 11th anniversary is really 4/11, but we'll be celebrating all day on Saturday, April 13th. The theme is...ELEVEN, and we'll have

  • Thank you swag bag while supplies last.
  • Two new shop-exclusive yarn colorways
  • Another custom design surprise
  • A new hat pattern, complimentary during our anniversary weekend
  • A special promotion on one of a kind skeins from Madelinetosh
  • Nine* varieties of Girl Scout Cookies

*I was hoping for eleven, but was foiled by the regional bakery situation. (Troops are served by two different bakeries, and the varieties are mostly--but not 100%--the same.)

Spring Girls Night Out

Always a good time, Spring Girls Night Out will be Thursday, April 25th, 5-9pm. We're planning some new merchandise, a little promo, and I hear there will be shopping bingo! The big prize baskets with goodies from all participating merchants will be back, of course!

LYS Day

Saturday, April 27th. Free patterns, exclusive merch, and more! This is one of our favorite events of the year! You'll want a new project for 👇🏻right??

Knit Or Crochet Every Day in May

Back again for our third year! Trackers will be available mid-April. All finishers get a coupon for a purchase in June or July, and will be entered in a end-of-challenge prize drawing.

Date TBD (May)

Book signing and brioche class with Anita Osterhaug, author of Nordic Hands, and editor emerita of Handwoven magazine.

…new in the shop

Consider this a teaser for what's in store for Saturday--

Merchandise in the 11th Anniversary Collection will go live at yarnfolk.com at 7am on Saturday morning--you can visit the Virtual 11th Anniversary page then, and you'll have the ability to order for shipment or local pick up. We really hope you can attend in person!

In addition to the limited edition merchandise we are offering, there will also be small thank you gifts with purchase while supplies last, and the pattern designed for one skein of one of the custom colorways will be free through the weekend. And there will be a drawing for a $50 gift card on Saturday.

On Friday, we'll send out a link to the 11th Anniversary page, and to the pattern. Keep your eyes open for that 😎

…to inspire

Have you ever used this method to create M1L or M1R? The principle here is that the increase is a twisted stitch created from the running thread between two stitches. If you create a yo where the M1 will go, you give the new stitch just a bit of breathing room. I used this method on the Mila Cardi when there were increases at the edge on both right side and wrong side rows. (If your browser doesn't show the embedded Instagram video below, you can find it here.)

...currently stitching

I just divided the Flair Free Cardi for the sleeves--and you know what that means: after I knit a few rows to establish the body, I'll put the body on hold and start the sleeves. Team Sleeves First forever! I prefer it so strongly to navigating the small-circumference around and around and around with the entire sweater body to move. I even prefer the first sleeve to the second for the same reason--less overall fabric in the way.

As for the Mila Cardi, I'm now working plain (still cabling, just without increases) for a bit, and then will be picking up on either side of this back piece to work the upper fronts.
