Socks, Socks, and More Socks!

What’s your oldest *active* unfinished object? (We’re not talking about things that are in hibernation here—I mean the things that get a little attention on a regular basis.) Other than the Mountain Colors Warm & Wooly Throw that I’ve been working on during Project Circle, mine is this (second) sock, followed closely by this other (second) sock! See below for more sock-related inspiration!

High Relief Cables Hat [In Progress]

June 15 & 22, 10:00am-12:30pm | $40 + materials | Sandy Buzzelli

Whether you’re brand new to knitting cables or you’re an old hand, you’ll delight in knitting the Magic HRC hat! High Relief Cables take advantage of strategically placed purl stitch to add depth and reversibility to standard cables. We’ll start with the basics of cable knitting and then explore how High Relief Cables work and how we can apply the concepts to other cable patterns.

Prerequisites: you should know how to cast on, how to knit and purl, and how to knit in the round on a 16” circular needle.

The Mason Dixon Field Guides are always a treat, but No. 11 especially so! It contains basic instructions for both cuff down and toe up socks, and contains multiple suggestions for all-over stitch patterns, as well as stitch panels. Grab a skein of sock yarn, some needles (DPNs? Long circular? Two circs? Flexi Flips? Knitter’s choice!) and you’re off to the races!

Do you have a favorite sock pattern? I can’t pick just one, but some that have caught my eye can be found here.

Above are the In A Jiffy socks from Shannon Squire Designs. This summer, you have the opportunity to participate in the #SocksOnVacay “Instagram Extravaganza.”

You must make socks between Wednesday, May 1st and Monday, September 2nd, 2019 (aka May 1st and Labor Day here in the US);

  • socks must be made with Knitted Wit yarn (Yarn Folk has options from the 2018 HerStory series, Glow Up minis + coordinating full skeins, and Smarties for heels and toes!)

  • socks must be made using one of Shannon Squire’s sock patterns; and you must share photos on IG and use #socksonvacay, #socksonvacay2019 AND tag @knittedwit and @shannonsq to be eligible to win prizes.

The prizes are evolving, but last year included recognition of Most Exotic Photo, Most Finished Socks, and Coolest Place to Knit.

Love Note

Love Note is like a cloud! Final garment weight is just under 7 ounces! Berroco’s Ultra Wool Fine is held together with Apple Fiber Studio Delicious, and worked on US 10 needles to give the delicate mohair fibers room to breathe. A fast and fun project!

Bradford Road

I’ll be taking the next couple of weeks leading up to the Olive Knits 4 Day KAL to (hopefully) wrap up a couple of wraps—here, Kirsten Kapur’s Bradford Road in Malabrigo Lace held double, and also Arcana in Malabrigo Sock and Neighborhood Fiber Studio Sock.
